All Produce at Snoozing Dogs Farm is grown with great care and planning to renew the land and ensure fertility and health for future generations. After all, the nutrients in our food come directly from the soil. If the soil has no nutrients, then the food has no nutrients. We believe that growing our soil is just as important as growing our produce.
The process starts with rejuvenating the soil with composts and natural fertilizers. This gives the crops grown the ability to resist disease and pests naturally, and produce healthy, great-tasting produce! We also add natural minerals to our planting areas so that the soil has the right mineral balance and pH levels for the crops we grow.
We use no synthetic, toxic, or petroleum-based products to eradicate pests, weeds or diseases. Using these products destroys the balance of a natural system by killing beneficial insects and fungal, and microbial organisms in the soil.
We manage pests using methods derived from plant extracts, yeast fermentation, beneficial insects, mating disruption pheromones, and systems that bait and trap pests. Weeds are controlled by mulching, cover plantings and manual removal.
